Cet événement survenu en septembre 2023, avec l’arrivée de 11 000 migrants sur les côtes italiennes et 2 500 personnes disparues en mer, a fait l’objet d’un traitement médiatique important. Nous nous intéressons aux discours de l’hebdomadaire Le Figaro, journal français positionné comme libéral conservateur, et en particulier aux discours publiés dans et par le site en ligne lefigaro.fr. Il s’agit de montrer que derrière ces représentations convergentes contre les migrants émerge un macro-discours de dénonciation politique qui laisse entrevoir un discours fondamentalement décliniste. Les cristallisations représentationnelles vi/lisibles reflètent alors des crispations sociopolitiques qui autorisent la mobilisation d’un imaginaire de désordre civilisationnel chez les lecteurs. “Lampedusa has become a nightmare for the authorities,” “we are facing a civilizational challenge”… This paper aims to examine the discursive, pre-discursive, and interdiscursive constructions of the migrant figure during the so-called “Lampedusa crisis.” This event, which occurred in September 2023 with the arrival of 11,000 migrants on the Italian coasts and 2,500 people missing at sea, received significant media coverage. Our focus will be on the discourse produced by Le Figaro, a French weekly newspaper with a liberal-conservative orientation, and more specifically on the texts published on its online platform, lefigaro.fr. We will show that behind these convergent representations opposing migrants emerges a macro-discourse of political denunciation that reveals a fundamentally declinist rhetoric.
