Survenu le 10 octobre 1980, le séisme d’El Asnam en Algérie est étudié pour sa violence avec une magnitude de 7,3 sur l’échelle de Richter. L’écrivaine franco-algérienne ne manque pas de donner une dynamique romanesque à cet événement marquant son histoire personnelle. Dans son texte, elle fait usage d’une écriture dans laquelle le lecteur ressent les secousses sismiques. Autrement dit, les ressources lexicales envisagées par Nina Bouraoui confèrent à son roman paru en 1999 une esthétique sismographique qu’il convient d’analyser au prisme des outils théoriques de la sociopoétique. Ce champ, promu par Alain Montandon et aujourd’hui déclassifié pour des raisons pluridisciplinaires, offre le canal d’étude du roman à la lumière de ses représentations tant sociales qu’imaginaires. À ce propos, Nina Bouraoui a su faire profiter à la réception de son texte des effets de style contenus dans des stratégies textuelles de représentation du trauma, de l’enfance, de la mobilité et de l’identité en crise. Nina Bouraoui’s novel entitled The Day of the Earthquake can be seen as a literary testimony to a natural disaster, namely the earthquake. Occurring on October 10, 1980, the El Asnam earthquake in Algeria is studied for its violence with a magnitude of 7.3 on the Richter scale. The Franco-Algerian writer does not fail to give a romantic dynamic to this event marking her personal history. In her text, she makes use of a scripture in which the reader feels the seismic tremors. In other words, the lexical resources envisaged by Nina Bouraoui give her novel published in 1999 a seismographic aesthetic that should be analyzed through the prism of the theoretical tools of sociopoetics. This field, promoted by Alain Montandon and now declassified for multidisciplinary reasons, offers the channel for the study of the novel in the light of its representations, both social and imaginary. En se penchant sur ce roman, notre recherche se propose d’étudier les éléments qui permettent de rapprocher la destruction du Carlton de l’apocalypse de la société bucarestoise de l’époque. Pour ce faire, nous analyserons, par exemple, des références à la Bible, des personnages individuels et collectifs, les images des dégâts attribués au séisme. Our article is about Cezar Petrescu’s novel entitled Carlton (1944), which is inspired by the collapse of the eponymous building during the 1940 earthquake. In dealing with this novel, our research aims at studying the elements which underlie the connection between the destruction of the Carlton and the apocalypse of the Bucharest society of the time.
