http://revues-msh.uca.fr/sociopoetiques/index.php?id=772 Résumé : À partir d’une analyse comparée du deuxième roman de Virginia Woolf, Night and Day (1919), dont l’un des personnages principaux est une suffragiste et du roman de Victor Margueritte, La Garçonne (1922), dont le titre dit explicitement la qualification de la protagoniste, l’article explore ces figures de « femmes nouvelles » en tant que représentations littéraires de réalités sociales et en tant que représentations qui s’alimentent à un imaginaire collectif qu’elles contribuent à façonner. Abstract: Based on a comparative reading of Virginia Woolf’s second novel, Night and Day (1919), where one of the main characters is a suffragist, and of Victor Margueritte’s La Garçonne (1922), whose title explicitly indicates the status of the protagonist as a flapper, this article explores figures of “new women” insofar as they are literary representations of social realities and insofar as such representations draw from a collective imaginary which they also contribute to forge.
